FWIW, I'm with you on this one, Shrade.
When I see Pete complain about having to tour to prop John Entwistle's finances up, I can't help but think that Pete resisted involvement in any new Who work because he would have seen it as, again, going to the Who well simply for the sake of others.
Now that John's "out of the way," Pete has total control over Who music. There is no John Entwistle to have to consider. Whether it was a conscious block or an unconscious one, I can't help but think that Pete sees John's death as freeing him.
Pete said much the same thing following Keith's death, that it "freed" them. No reason to think Pete wouldn't view John's death in at least a similar manner.
Now, I will admit to liking EW more than Shrade does. But I remain bitter at seeing Pete feel all freed up and viweing a future now that John's dead.

I agree, Ernie. Bottom line is Pete waited until after John
had died to make a new studio record. Nineteen years
wasted (1983 - 2002) because Pete couldn't get his mental
shit together.
Maybe we should make the anniversary of Entwistle's death
a celebration, because it freed The Master & provided him
the comfort to work on a studio project with Daltrey again.
Another bottom line is that the live shows & studio output
are weaker without Entwistle. Pete may not want to allow
that fact into his swelled head....but it's true.
Who fans missed out on a bunch of fine musical dining be-
cause of Pete's schizophrenic fickleness. Instead, we got
the warmed up Stouffer's frozen dinner that is ENDLESS
WIRE. Yippee. Long live The Who.
