I'm listening to it right now. Very powerful singing.
I can't think of any other time that Pete has ever sung My Generation - not
since his demo version, that is. As far as I know, he has never sung it at
any of his solo concerts. (Can anyone confirm or deny that?)
I always thought that Pete never doing a solo MG was weird. It's as though
he was trying to distance himself from the song. It's as if he's saying:
"My Generation is a WHO song for WHO CONCERTS. This is a PETE show, and you
have to hear what I WANT to play."
Just heard Pete sing this bit:
You know I hope I don't die,
..
He! Can't! Die!
Makes it sound as though he's thinking about Roger right then. Thinking
about Roger lying on a stretcher, being given oxygen to keep him alive -
right at that very moment. As far as Pete knew, Roger was as dead as
Schroeder's Cat at that point.
Pete must have been thinking - "don't die Roger - not you as well. I don't
want to be the last one left." Really powerful moment.
Then wow - fantastic guitar playing at the end of Cry if you Want.
Mental note to self: consider buying the Chicago Encore CD. Best piece of
spontaneous improvisation that I've heard from this tour so far. pity Roger
missed it.
