The usual clips of historical gear smashing and suchlike were shown 
(Monterey, Wight, Smothers Brothers etc), and (from Chicago) Townshend and 
Daltrey sent a very quick pre-recorded thankyou message. Daltrey said he was 
going to phone in his response "but it's too f**king expensive!".

The award was presented by Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen.
