Roger reversed his opinion. In 1982, he said "Pete's written 9 really good songs." Now, either Roger was lying or he changed his mind by the time it became apparent that IH would stand as the last Who studio album.

I can't agree with you that FACE DANCES is worse. FD is a risky album because of its concerted effort to NOT sound like classic Who. IH has some very good moments and yet also some very (IMHO) weak moments ("A Man Is A Man," "Why Did I Fall For That," despite its cool reference to the atomic clock).

I'm getting tired of this. About "It's Hard":

"the album "ended things with a relative whimper -- the record
was competent, but the energy and vision were gone." Singer Roger Daltrey
was quoted later as saying that the record never should have been released."

Would someone explain this to me? It's got Athena (far better, really,
than You Better You Bet--read the words if you don't think so),
Cook County (which really is wonderful---play it unbearably loud),
Eminence Front, and Cry If You Want. All wonderful.

I'd like to officially change the party line: "Face Dances" is far worse.
With the exception of "tricky day".

Please--someone explain this to me.

             James Sethian
