No kidding.
You never know what to expect form Zak, that's another reason I like him.
In Detroit when the synth for BO'R started, I waited to see how he was gonna
start the drum attack at the beginning. Instead of playing the seven beats,
he started it early and did this bad-ass fill around the kit lightning fast
and ended right with the proper down beat and just pounded it from there with
the cymbal crashes. I've never seen that one before.
As for WGFA, Ernie, you been sippin' smoke, dude.
When we saw that tribute band called Who's Next after MSG 1, their "Keith"
hit that part in WGFA beat for beat just like on the album. The guy was
really good. But the thing is, it was a parody. If *I* could do that, surely Zak
can. He doesn't do it on purpose for the reason that he's in a living band
that still has creative force. He ain't Keith Moon. He's Zak Starkey. And
this is 2006. I totally accept him and I reject all others. Why? Probably
because Keith had something to do with him. But that's subjective. The
objective part is that he's a genuine Who-style drummer.
Yes, he never takes his eyes off of Pete. This is what a Who drummer should
do.
