33 years ago, last night (22nd Nov. 1973) and tonight (Thanksgiving Night,
23rd Nov. 1973) I was fortunate enough to attend back to back concerts
at The Forum in Inglewood California by The Who-> on the Fallout Shelter
Tour.
The 22nd was a superiour performance to the 23rd, and less heavy in
the tummy after a TGFeast...
The 8X10 b&w pics from this show that I bought at Lewin's Record Paradise
on Holllywood Blvd. are classic, some of which made it onto one or more of
the 3, 4ftx8ft, masonite collages that I made and offered to give Moonie the
night I had drinks with him at The Rainbow. Moonie asked why I made them.
I told him I was a total Who-> freak. Moonie's response, "...So am I...!"
Others remain unused, including one I have never seen elsewhere other than
in my collection, (one 16x20 and the other 8x10) where Pete has already
broken the neck off his Les Paul and is hurling it into an amplifier in such
an
angry, totally unstaged/premeditated act. It is the most intense pic I have
even seen of Pete trashing a guitar, but has no stamp on the back identifing
the photographer (( which most of the pics coming out of Lewin's did, most
frequently and notable, the great Mr. Norwood Price, whose pics of Santa
Monica 1968 and Anaheim 1970 are the definitive documentation of the
events )).
Every year on Thanksgiving I think of those Fallout Shelter shows, but this
year the dates match those in '73, making it even more memorable.
The highlight of the two nights?
Moonie's almost perfect "Bell Boy!"
