Hi Jon and the rest..
I have been a WHO fan since around 74 (heard Live at Leeds, and got Who's
Next within a month or so later, round Christmas), and just bought up
everything vinyl, later on cd and so on...
I have been looking forward to the album, and have kept up with IGTC and O&S
since I have been on the Internet, since about '95 (I think!)
I have heard pretty much everything that was available pre-release of the
album, so I had already decided to buy the album, because what I heard was
pretty good. My faves at the moment, seem to be the following: Black
Widow's Eyes, It's Not Enough, We Got A Hit (Ext. version), Mirror Door, Tea
& Theatre. I pretty much like the whole album, but am still getting used to
In The Ether (that whole voice thing is just a bit ~different~ for me). I
decided to pick up the Walmart version, because BB is an hour away, and I
couldn't wait til I could go get it there...
For my part, the reviewers don't really speak from a fan's viewpoint, moreso
from the viewpoint of someone who knows only what hit the radio in their
decade. Even if I wasn't a WHO fan, I think I could look at this
objectively, understanding (say with Roger's vocals) that with Roger is NOT
a spring chicken, so WHY would I expect him to sound exactly like the WHO'S
NEXT period. For me, the WHOLE matters (songs - are they written, played
well), and I am still amazed these guys still do what they do NOW. There is
great fire in Roger & Pete's work still, and it shows. As with everyone, I
miss John and Keith's contributions, but I think there is nothing to be
ashamed of here. This is a GREAT album ...
