Man, dont' think of it as you having to defend anything. You just explained  
it, that's all. And I'm not trying to deny you your own recollections.
 
I'm just saying from my own recollections, I never heard a whit before the  
Who's tour from Roger or Pete that they wanted to wriggle out of their 
contract.  Pete in the STONE said they were going to work really hard on this next 
album  and on the tour that would follow it and that that would then mark their 
end as  a road band. But that he had hopes that it could remain a studio band

 
Now, once the tour started, well, things changed. John didn't want the Who  
to end its road work despite Roger's assertion that getting the Who off the 
road  would save Townshend's life. Etc. 
 
And I am enjoying the new album. It's a worthy addition to the Who canon  
despite having, for me, some uneven moments.
