Ok Folks...
Just got back from the Amazing Journey Chicago show and what an incredible
show it was. I know it's not The Who but I've seen every incarnation of the
Who and countless tribute bands and this tribute by far takes the cake!
Even if you're not fans of Gary, Billy, Mike, and Paul...you would still be
impressed by the performance. The energy level was intense and Mike Portnoy
and Billy Sheehan have to be one of the best, if not the best, rhythm combo
on the planet. The Drum Pad which sponsored the event painstakingly pieced
together an original Tama drum set (the same set Keith used in the 70's) and
had it restored just for these 3 shows. Billy Sheehan took these songs to a
whole other level that even John would have been proud of. He's just an
incredible musician. Paul Gilbert shockingly looked a lot like Pete when he
first came out also put on a great performance. And of course Gary Cherone
is no Roger Daltrey and hit his share of flat notes...still put on a good
performance. If you are in the New York area tonight and are questioning
whether or not to go...GO! You will not be disappointed. It was a breath
of fresh air to hear these songs performed live by another great set of
musicians.
Kevin
By the way, if you've never seen Dream Theater live I highly recommend you
check them out. They are a "musicians" band...very progressive and
intricate.
