Actually, The Shout seems very reliable.  The post we're discussing was 
originally posted on alt.music.who; the previous Pete interview hoax 
originated on Relayers--these things pass around.  You may also be thinking 
about a recent post from The Shout that said the tour schedule was in 
question, but the poster stood by that after a challenge.  I would expect 
that means it was a serious rumor--at least for that moment.

The problem is in criticising the quality of a free news service.  It seems 
more than a little arrogant and leads to the kind of situation we have with 
Brian Cady where he posts his news articles but won't read the list.  This, 
I gather, it the kind of discussion that puts him off.  Of course, I guess 
your question is whether Who news should be considered spam?
