Pete's being nice.  This was one of his Modernist art projects, and 
apparently he's had a good time with it.  Like Jo says, it's like being 
invited into his house for a little chat, and he managed to supress the 
adoration some by totally ignoring it.  There were also some very impolite 
comments, which he mostly bleeped without explanation, as well.
