Ok.

Not sure what anyone can say to all of that.
We all have different (and similar) feelings about the "now" of 'Then
and Now'.

>generation gap? what, there has never been one? there will ALWAYS be
one, one
>form or another.

Of course. My point exactly.
But, the late 60's revolution caused a much wider gap then, then
currently exists.

>but i'm pissed off
>actually whenever I hear someone of your generation saying that there
isn't anything
>great out there in music when there is.

OH, yes, because we're all dolts.
Don't feed me that load of shit.....
....Like you got the inside scoop on what's out there.
80% of radio play I listen to is the University station and
"alternative" station.
I hear what current music is out there and getting play.

>I for one think oasis are fabulous

Causes me to question your taste. ;-)

>and could be looked at in the future the same way we look at U2 these
days

Oh....my....god.
Not even close by any sort of stretch of the imagination.
U2 was *immediately* recognized as a power group. They *vaulted* into
stardom and have remained.

>if you don't like them, fine, but it seems like you all want them hung
>from the highest tree by the way you're sounding. they're not THAT bad.

Come on man, don't get the knickers all in a twist over *that.*
The distain you're hearing probably has more to do with snagging Zak,
than their music.
To me, they are boring. A 'bin-there, done-that' kind of band.
I just like busting on them because of Zak.
Oh, and because it gets a rise out of you. :-)

>there are alot of great bands out there today who aren't well known,
mainly
>because they're on "indie labels".

Great bands?
Not.
Good bands.
If they were great, they would be recognizable.

>listen to "Little steven's underground
>garage" radio show, you'll hear the bands I'm referring to. some of
them anyway.

I'm sure.
There has always been good music just below the radio play surface.
I grew up immerged in the punk scene. I traveled with punk bands. Hung
out in the local venues in DC that were "underground."
Hell, The Dead Milkmen wanted me to go shoot smack with them!
Graciously passed.

But, that's not what we're talking about, is it?
Underground music scene.
It's a shame that you have to go underground to find good music.

>and yes, RGLB does contain lines, and the melody too, from elvis'
"can't help
>falling in Love": "wise men say, only fools rush in, but I can't help
falling
>in love, with you" ::handing over cash to the presley estate for use of
the
>lyrics in this posting::

I was being sarcastic.
It's not like I haven't listened to the song.

>exactly. it becomes a "business" rather than "guys (or women) just
having
>fun" and "making great music". isn't that what rock is about in the
end?

Not by a mile.
It's about making money.
Anyone playing music that tells you they don't want to be paid is flat
out....lying to you.
Even those bands that are "underground."
Correction!
*ESPECIALLY* those bands that are underground.
Go see them live.
Talk to them.
They *wish* they could make money.
I have three unrelated friends in bands *all* wanting to make money.

>"what is rock rebelling against these days?" (as Johnny rotten / Lydon
would
>say)

You tell us.
What is Oasis rebelling against these days?

I can tell you what The Who is rebelling against.....
......Your thinking.
The thinking that simply because you're "old", that you should hang it
up.
The thinking that getting older means you're getting useless.
Our society as a whole is very backwards in this regard.
Particularly when it comes to music. With practice....comes perfection.
The older musicians have been practicing for a very, very long time.

>that he would pretty much be able to do
>what the white stripes do, "only better"? so far, I haven't seen any
real
>signs of that. prove me wrong pete. prove me wrong! ; )

I'd like to see that too.
And, we will.
But, forgive Pete if he's not talking about dating, having a baby,
waiting for his doorbell to ring, having a ball and a biscuit, shooting
smack, etc.
Ummmm....He's been there......done that.......more than most.
Let's let him talk about what's relevant to *him*, even if it's not
relevant to *you*...............right now.
'Cause......one day.............it will be............if you're still
listening.

...Generation gap...
