I bet the prices you described below are true and are indicative of the truths
of ticket buying. Scalper do sell may ticket before an event for way over face
value to people with money who do not want any hassles of buying. At the event,
many times it is just to unload tickets. There are also tons of people who need
to dump tickets: sick wife, bought too many, friend cancelled, etc. These are
the best people to buy from because they get desperate to unload the ticket.
Scalpers try to buy them for next to nothing, just to resell to a sucker who
bites fast.

Scalping is the way to go. For EVERY show I have ever scalped the day of, I got
in for under (sometimes way under) face value: Neil Diamond (yes, I did go):
2nd row $130 for 2 $120 tickets, Who MSG 2002 and 2004 about 7th row for $50.
Fleetwood Mac 4th row dead center 3 $120 tickets for $80 each. At the last
Rolling Stones concert in Philly, my limit was $60 bucks. $160 tickets were
changing hands for $80/$100. I tried to get them down another $20 with no luck
because it still seemed high to me. I left, no biggie.

I think demand for The Who is going to be far under what promoters expect. I am
not buying tickets to any show from Ticketmaster. I live in Philadelphia and
have many options given the schedule.

This certainly seems the best way to do it.

Last night, I heard a rumour that Who tickets at the Brighton show were
being sold outside for just £5. As a comparison: I paid £21.50 for each of
my tickets, in advance.

It seems the scalpers had bought WAY too many tickets, and had trouble
selling them. In the end they resorted to just getting whatever cash they
could for them, in order to cut their losses.

(Ha - serves them right.)

PS OT: just bought tickets to see Paul Weller in December!
