Sex and drugs message at festival
Thousands will flood the venue at Balado this weekend
Health workers will be handing out condoms at this
weekend's T in the Park music festival as part of a
move to promote a safer sex message.
An NHS Tayside mobile clinic at the Kinross venue will
also be distributing sunscreen to help festival-goers
to protect themselves.
Meanwhile Tayside Police warned that it would be
taking a zero-tolerance stance on people caught with
illegal drugs.
The force will have more than 300 officers in and
around the Balado site.
The NHS Tayside clinic will be manned by volunteer
health workers who have been regulars at the festival
for several years.
An NHS Tayside spokeswoman said: "The main message
from the team to the revellers is to take care in the
sun and remember the safer sex message.
"Hot summer weather is forecast for the weekend and
NHS Tayside is reminding music fans to stock up on
sunscreen and not leave themselves exposed to the
harmful rays of the sun."
The NHS Tayside mobile clinic will be located near the
festival's information point, but the health authority
has advised festival-goers to bring their own
sunscreen of at least factor 15.
More than 70,000 people of all ages are expected to
attend the festival, headlined this year by The Who
and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, with many camping at
the event.
The police operation will be overseen by Ch Supt Matt
Hamilton - who as a 15-year-old saw The Who perform in
Auchinleck in East Ayrshire in 1969 - the same year
the band released its rock opera album Tommy.
Ch Supt Hamilton urged festival-goers to have respect
for local people.
He added: "If you are a criminal and come to T in the
Park you will be arrested and almost certainly
detained for court.
"Tayside Police will adopt a zero-tolerance policy to
drugs. Anyone caught dealing or using will be arrested
and reported to the procurator fiscal."
Police also warned there may be traffic delays and
urged motorists to check traffic arrangements before
setting out.
