"Yes. At Brighton, The Who came on stage, and Roger put on an acoustic guitar.
That was the moment that I new they were going to start with Who Are You.
(Which was exciting in itself - because at least it wasn't going to be I Can't
Explain AGAIN.)
But yes, it's hard to hear any difference his guitar playing makes to that song.
I'm sure that they could easily play without the guitar mic being plugged in,
and no one would notice."
Martin:
I think Roger has a really hard head about some things, which is why he and Pete have fought so much over the years. Acoustic guitar amidst the Who are You cacophony is absolutely asinine and CLEARLY has a negative impact on Roger's singing and stage presence. I think God himself could tell Roger to stop it and he would still resist. Similarly, Roger has said that he never listens to recordings of prior concerts. HUGE mistake. There are so many things he could learn from reviewing past shows which would allow him to adjust and improve his vocals. For example, his recent renditions of Baba and BBE (and sometimes Bargain) have been positively putrid, NOT because of a failing voice but due to his vocal choices. Imagine if a football or basketball coach didn't watch game film- he/she wouldn't last long.
