The Who Down in St. Paulville

When the legend of rock is unfurled inch by inch, 

There are guys known as the Who — who've outlasted the Grinch! 

They dwell not in Whoville at the foot of a hill, 

But on stages, arenas and on concert bills. 

Though the Who has been called greatest rock band of all, 

Some say that their pants were two sizes too small. 

These Whos came to be in the '60s, it's said. 

Many rockers their age are retired. Or dead. 

In fact, there was one Who, by name of Keith Moon, 

Whose death came by sadly and happened too soon. 

For young Whos did party, they lived not as monks 

They did drugs — and liquor meant drink, drank, get drunk. 

At the start there was Moon, Daltrey, Townshend, Entwistle. 

They played with such fierceness, the air seemed to bristle. 

The teens — how they loved the Who — they cheered, one and all. 

But rock 'n' roll Grinches didn't like them at all! 

Whatever the reason, their parties or tunes, 

Grinches vowed they would stop the Who. And stop them real soon! 

"They're corrupting our children, ignoring their toys! 

"Now all they will listen to is Who NOISE! NOISE! NOISE! NOISE!" 

But the Who played their music, it wasn't a sin. 

They played "My Generation," "Won't Get Fooled Again." The Who gave the world a rock opera called "Tommy." 

How could the young teens go back to Dad and Mommy? 

They played and they played — oh, they made lots of money! 

A farewell tour didn't stop them. They're back 
 
Ain't it funny? 

Though Entwistle died in 2000 and 2, 

Still plenty of ears want to hear from the Who. 

They'll come to the X with guitars, mics and drums. 

They'll crank up the amps 'til the place throbs and thrums. 

Because music — from Whos — goes beyond age or reason. 

And the Who's generation goes on through the seasons.
