I like the "oil as in priesthood" interpretation of that line

Interesting.  A fellow American at the company I worked for in England once
gave me a lecture on this very line.  He suggested it referred to men who
sought solitude working in the North Sea oil fields and also the sacramental
oil of the priesthood.

I believe he said the "coil" in "and girls who lost their children; cursed
the men who fit the coil" referred to IUDs.
