Actually the phrasing is a bit different from what's written there.  Is this 
better?

He raised up a light to her
She did not fight for her
Shudder had frozen her heart.

He very definitely says "shutter" here, not shudder, so the meaning is still 
a question mark.  I don't know if it's a trick of pronunciation or what.
