>The Cure closes cancer concerts

The Cure played a three-hour set
Goth-pop band The Cure have brought to a close a series of shows in aid of
teenage cancer sufferers. Lead singer Robert Smith and the rest of the band
appeared at London's Royal Albert Hall in support of the Teenage Cancer
Trust (TCT) on Saturday.

It was the band's first UK gig with a new line-up.

It is the sixth year the shows, co-produced by The Who's Roger Daltrey, have
been held to raise funds for the TCT charity.

Past performers

Previous acts in this year's TCT concert line-up included Razorlight, Bloc
Party, Goldfrapp and The Office star Ricky Gervais.

Gervais, star and co-writer of BBC comedy series Extras, took part in a
comedy night.

Other past performers at the concerts include Oasis, Coldplay, Madness, Eric
Clapton, Kaiser Chiefs, Paul Weller, and Franz Ferdinand.

The TCT was set up to focus on the needs of teenagers and young adults with
cancer, leukaemia, Hodgkin's Disease and related diseases.

Daltrey, who was made a CBE for services to entertainment and charity last
year, has helped the TCT raise millions of pounds through the concerts since
they began in 2000.
