NBC to air 'celebrity-driven' tsunami benefit

LOS ANGELES - A live TV benefit seeking aid for victims of the tsunami 
disaster will air on NBC's cable and broadcast outlets on Jan. 15, the 
American network announced Monday.

In addition to NBC's main network, the hour-long program will air on USA, 
Bravo, Trio, Sci-Fi, MSNBC and CNBC, with phone lines open throughout the 
evening so the public can make donations.

Clear Channel has agreed to carry the TV special on its radio network across 
the U.S.

NBC officials said in a statement Monday that the show will be "music and 
celebrity-driven" but did not reveal details of which performers will 

A similar benefit, carried by more than 30 networks including the major U.S. 
broadcasters, was held after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, with such 
Hollywood stars as Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts soliciting aid for the 
victims and their families.
