their shows were huge events, but it wasn't the great performances that made
the concerts big, but rather the fact that they were THE BEATLES!  Yes, the
music itself was amazing but their live act itself, with some exceptions in 
the
later 60s (Lennon playing piano with his elbows), were not that great.

Without looking at the article again, I think he put The Stones in second 
place.
