Debut film to start shooting in Belfast
24 April 2005

BRENDAN Foley hopes to return to his native Belfast
later this year to begin shooting his first feature
film - with a star-studded cast.

Included in the line-up for the thriller 'Johnny Was'
are Roger Daltrey, Samantha Mumba and Vinnie Jones.

It's the story of a former republican paramilitary,
now lying low in north London, who is forcibly coerced
into sheltering a pair of erstwhile colleagues.

They've escaped from Brixton prison, and his
anything-but-safe house also accommodates a crack
dealer and a pirate reggae station.

The film, produced by Borderline Productions, involves
two sets of London-based gangs, one Irish and the
other West Indian. Brendan, a former student at St
Malachy's College in Belfast, left Northern Ireland in
the early Eighties to work as a journalist in London.

He is now a full-time screenwriter, and divides his
time between London and Santa Monica with his partner,
writer and singer Shelly Goldstein.
