finger pointing?

Simmons made this point today in his ESPN article, but
let me reiterate: Doc seems to blame players when
other coaches, on occasion, blame themselves (unless
we're talking about the Zen master). It might have
been nice for him to say after Game 4, "you know what,
I stayed with Sam tonight too long tonight. I thought
he could get us a few baskets, but they didn't fall.
And I played a hunch with Big Baby that didn't work
out. Even though we didn't lose any ground during the
first four minutes of the fourth, I thought we failed
to make up any ground, especially when we were getting
stops. My bad." Wouldn't that make everyone feel
better? Take the pressure off the team (and this team
is feeling huge amounts of pressure on the road), and
put it on himself. Isn't that what a leader does? Or
does a leader tell everyone that his team needs to
play better under stress? Maybe Doc needs to coach
better under stress.
