Game 3

Ughh....

Can someone tell me how Wally is outplaying Ray?
Seriously, I don't get it. Even though it indirectly
got us KG, the Wally/West for Ray deal is a wash now.
Crazy. Yes, Wally can make shots, if you leave him
open (and we're leaving him open). But seemingly
putting good defense on Ray Allen? Seriously?

I guess props must be given to West, Wally, Joe Smith,
and Wallace for playing very very well. All four
played good floor games AND shot the ball well.

Sam Cassell has got to play better. On the road. It
appeared that he was starting to actually know our
offense and play like a point guard in the first two
games of this series, but tonight he just chucked up
shots. Repeatedly. Even after airballing a few.
Just kept putting it up. I guess that's what you do
when you're a shooter, but Doc has to realize when bad
Sam shows up (when it becomes apparent--usually by the
2nd quarter), and play Eddie or Tony(!!!!!).

We still held LeBron down pretty well. That's
something. But the players he passed to killed us.

Rondo played poorly in the first quarter (as did most
of the C's). West was cheating off him all the time,
usually illegally though it was never called) and
Rondo refused to take lots of open shots and the
offense got seriously mired down. In the 3rd, Rondo
played more aggressively on both ends, getting some
drives to basket and playing tighter D. Doc needs to
get in his ear about being aggressive. He let Delonte
body him all night and hardly exploited his speed
advantage. And he's gotta take the open shot when it
shows. Bad things happen when he doesn't.

Tommy just made a good point on the television. The
first team has been timid all series. Even in game 2,
our first team was lacksadaisical. We're not
attacking. We're playing passively. We're walking
the ball up, calling plays, and letting them set the
pace. I realize Tommy says this all the time, but
he's right.

It was good to see Doc Rivers get a tech tonight.
Terrible, terrible call on KG. Not that it helped.
But it was nice.

I'm not going to suggest too many changes for Game 4
because I think we're winning it but I wouldn't mind
seeing Big Baby out there. He's an instigator. He
brings energy. Nights like tonight are when you turn
to him. In the 2nd quarter. PJ Brown may be the
better matchup on paper, but on the court tonight and
we need someone to bring energy to our lineup. Baby
can do that. Doc, my man, you've got to coach in the
moment. Remember who you have on this team. Don't be
afraid to be unorthodox. Baby and Powe can play
together.
