Having seen Sam several times with the Clippers, and after watching
Eddie House last night, the idea of Sam and Eddie out there chattering
is funny to think about. I don't think either of them has stopped
talking for more than 30 seconds in the last five years.
One thing that struck me about the Celtics last night was the apparent
camaraderie on the team. From Posey's pre-game hugs on down to the fact
that at every timeout, someone is at midcourt greeting teammates as
they come to the bench, it looks like these guys are enjoying the ride.
Maybe it's because they were blowing out a bad team and going home
afterwards, but this was a team of loose and happy Celtics.
I didn't see Cassel during the game, but it was hard to see the Clipper
bench from my seats.
Miscellaneous observation #23: timeouts are pretty unremarkable.
Players come over to the bench, the players on the court sit, others
stand around as the coach talks. Last night, though, both teams did the
same thing: timeout called, the coaching staff huddles near the free
throw line as the players head to the bench, then the coaching
conference breaks up and the coach heads to the bench. I had never seen
this before, now it seems like standard practice. On occasion, an
assistant coach would grab one guy while the head coach talked to the
rest.
