At the immediate conclusion of Sunday's game (approximately 8:30, PM,
EST) with the Portland Trailblazers, the CSL crew will put on their
headsets and hopefully celebrate the conclusion of this three game
losing streak that has coincided with Kevin Garnett's return from
injury.

Our guest this week will be Elrod Enchilada.

We all know Elrod as the seasoned Celtics writer for "Real
GM ," but as his alter ego, Wink Dr. Robert McChesney, he is a
professor and well known author and lecturer in the field of
communications, focusing on keeping the internet free and open. You
can visit his foundation's website; freepress.net , if you wish to
help with the effort to: "...examine America’s corporate media
machine and the dire implications of closed-door deregulatory
decisions."
The enclosed photo was taken while on the Bill Moyers television
program; "Now ."

Of course our attention with Elrod will be on the Celtics and we will
certainly be looking at his recent, scholarly and imaginative
features, on "Real GM. "

In part 1; "Frontloading: An Alternative Approach To NBA
Contracts ," {http://www.realgm.com/src_feature_article/160/20080129/
frontloading_an_alternative_approach_to_nba_contracts/}Elrod outlines
the concept and details the potential benefits for many teams of
frontloading contracts.

“ With frontloading, the era of NBA teams having many mediocre or
worse players with massive long-term contracts grown mountainous due
to huge annual raises making them all but untradeable except as
salary dumps: Ratliff, LaFrentz, Szczerbiak, Miles, Walker, seemingly
half the Knicks, the list goes on and on – will slowly fade into the
past.”

In part 2; "Frontloading The Cs Past The Garnett Era ," {http://
celtics.realgm.com/articles/353/20080131/
frontloading_the_cs_past_the_garnett_era/}he presents the Celtics
with a plan.

“Ainge should attempt to frontload all long-term contracts
between now and 2012. The idea should be to pay more now – even if it
means luxury tax penalties – so as to be able to have a young core in
place by 2012 and significant cap space for acquiring expensive all-
star caliber veteran talent.”

Another of Elrod's recent Celtics topics has been Dave Cowens and the
great teams of the seventies.I highly recommend the this recent
thread {http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?
t=756221&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=36} from the Real GM message
board.

“ I wish those under the age of 40 or even 45 could have seen him
play. I lived in Boston in 72-73 and saw many games in the Garden. It
was impossible to watch a game and not have him draw your attention.
He was a force of nature. There has never been a more intense player
in the NBA or any other league that I know of. That was his truly
great and singular talent. His intensity and hustle make Kevin
Garnett look like Joe Barry Carroll after a quart of rum and a bottle
of sleeping pills.”
