Our guest this week is the unflappable, Steve Bulpett, the beat writer
for the Boston Herald.
Steve has been covering the Celtics since the Hoover administration
and has frequently entertained us with his intense love of the game
and of course his dry wit.
While we are waiting for the playoffs to start, I though it would be
fun to check Steve's opinion of the Garnett trade.
Here are his comments from the Herald's blog on July 21st, 2007 .
{ Ironically, it was Kevin McHale who once said the bottom line to
the Celts success in the ’80s was that they knew they were going to be
better than their opponent at a preponderance of the matchups on most
any given night. In Garnett and Pierce, the Celtics should be able to
pretty much count on two. In the East, that may be enough to rumble.
When you bring the West into the picture, that still won’t get it
done. But it’s a starting point you’d have to consider.
This issue isn’t black and white. There are some vividly gray
areas led by Jefferson’s potential and the nine-year age difference
between Al and KG.
If we’re playing Deal or No Deal, I may hang on to the suitcase a
bit longer in the expectation that Jefferson’s value won’t decrease.
But it’s not a simple choice.}
