From the two games in which I've seen Big Baby play minutes, I'm
very excited about him. He reminds me most of ... Ryan Gomes.
Not his body, of course. But the way (it seems to me) that he instantly
knows his way around an NBA basketball court. He's the first player
since Gomes that I watch *off* the ball (not my strength as a viewer)
just because it's so much fun to see what he's up to.
And he's constantly at work: sneaking in for offensive rebounds, getting
rid of the ball quickly, getting free in the paint (and calling for the ball
with confidence), and, when he can't think of anything else to do,
setting pick after pick after pick.
I imagine an opposing team could scout Big Baby and find ways to
neutralize much of his effectiveness. But that's the magic of having
GPA: what team in the league has the time (or bench personnel) to
worry about this guy?
So, I predict that Big Baby, coming off the bench, will be a difference
maker, a player whose offensive and defensive skills make it much
easier for the second team to hold, and extend, leads.
He's also going to be a fan favorite.
