Agreed, and it is even tougher for someone whose career starts out so
promising, but then declines to the point where a former all-star is
willing to play for minimum. It's a tough business. Throw in the part
about how athletes love being in the show, in the locker room, one of
the guys, etc., and suddenly that's gone as well. It's interesting how
few players do walk away at, or near, the top. Making it a bit easier
is the fact that he is undoubtedly fabulously wealthy and, with a bit
of sense, will never have to work again and can live a quiet life of
opulence.

Antoine needs to latch onto some facet of the game where he can salvage
his
reputation. I feel for him and those many other players who are at the
stage
where they're dumped out of the game and have to face real life. I
hope there's
a reasonable transition to a good life for these guys. Since he was
one of
ours, I will watch and hope he can make good. I'm sure most of them
think they
will go out on top, be lionized like a Jo Jo or John, but it's not that
way for
some. Gene
