Fun discussion, but no one has mentioned what I think is one of the main
components of BBIQ -
Anticipation.
The great players are able to think 2 or 3 moves ahead - not only do they
know where all 10 players are on the floor, they sense where they are going
before they get there, and they get into the right position to take
advantage. This is why players without great speed (Bird, Duncan) can be so
amazingly effective. Like great chess players, they are 2 or 3 moves ahead
of anyone else. They are proactive, not reactive, and it changes the flow of
the game. Experience and good coaching obviously helps, but this is a rare
gift.
In today's game? Duncan and Nash come to mind, but I think KG has a bit of
it.
