And so we're delivered the follow-up question thusly. Can BBIQ be
learned or is it already born in a person?

 

I'm in the camp that it can be learned. I think you can see the
difference between the awkward rookie and the seasoned veteran in this
regard. Look at Gomes year 1 versus year 2 - high BBIQ in both cases,
but after being in the NBA environment a year his success level in
executing those high IQ plays increased.  Immersion therapy at work.

 

And BTW the difference between AJ and KG? Intensity, not BBIQ. You can't
make those low post moves of Al's (even pre-Cliff Ray) without BBIQ.  AJ
might not be MENSA BBIQ, but he's definitely not remedial either (a
solid B student).  There are levels - it's not merely "yes you have it"
or "no you don't".  I'd be scared of AJ with KG's motor and energy - and
so would the league.
