Well we "knew" about Robert Swift -- but isn't there some thought that
that was a similar situation.... that we liked Jefferson and getting
someone to reach for Swift woulda helped?
I too don't have a problem, per se, about shopping Pierce, but i'm just
(to use your phrase) terrified about what we might get for him. The
thought of Ben Gordon and junk makes me vomit a little each time. (i'm no
Gordon fan). A resigned Nocioni, Thomas, Duhon and the #9 is much better.
It's sacrilege, and i feel like i might get struck with lightening every
time i think it, but Pierce + Szczerbiak for Lamar Odom, Kwame Brown's
expiring $9M contract, and Andrew Bynum strikes me as a nice deal for
us... If they held Bynum instead of getting Kidd, maybe they don't do it
for Pierce. See I can't even bring myself to say who the "they" are.
Stupid Fakers.
I know you were keen on Peja for Pierce several years ago Mark... and that
would have been disastrous. That's what i'm afraid of. Do you have anyone
in mind? (sorry baout the Peja dig..)

I have no problem shopping Pierce, in fact I think it's the smart thing
at this point. But I don't think the owner will allow them to trade him.
I'd feel better about this "Ainge is sending out smoke signals" theory
if we haven't seen over the years that he has been pretty transparent in
his draft plans. We knew about Marcus Banks early. We knew about Robert
Swift early. These things have a way of leaking out. I blame Chris
Wallace -- the guy who leaked the Pierce-to-Portland talks a couple of
years ago (and scuttled our chance to get Chris Paul). Of course, I like
to blame Chris Wallace whenever I can. I can't believe that guy is still
drawing a paycheck from the Celtics.
