Warriors

Yes and no, Mark. The Warriors don't upset Dallas -
they don't even make the playoffs - if Mullin doesn't
dump Dunleavy and Murphy for Stephen Jackson and Al
Harrington. (I still can't believe Bird and Donnie
Walsh could get so snookered.) Those guys were
absolutely perfect complements to Davis, Richardson
and the rest of the Warriors roster.
That said, I also agree that - even with Jackson and
Harrington - Golden State doesn't make the playoffs if
Mike Montgomery (an excellent Xs and Os coach) is
still on the bench. Nelson isn't just a mad genius,
he's also smart and confident enough to let his grown
NBA players be, well, grown NBA players.
So, while I agree that a better coach would almost
certainly be able to do more with the current Celtics
roster, you also can't deny that the Indy trade
infused the Warriors with a lot more veteran talent
than the Celtics currently have. Perhaps - just
perhaps - draft day and a judicious trade might change
that.
>>Amen. The Warriors were the Celtics last year -- and
they didn't even
add an Oden or Durant.

Does this say anything as to what the right coach can
do with a good
young nucleus?
