And how exactly is Ainge going to match the salary of said "rock solid
starter"? Maybe Brain Doc can change the CBA? Short answer, he's probably
not unless he gives up Pierce or Jefferson as they're the only pieces people
would want. If Ratliff's deal or Green or West had any value whatsoever
we'd be hearing trade rumors to stir the pot a little and we're flat out not
(remember the ramp up to the Iverson deal?). Plus if this administration has
shown anything it's that they are canny in the media interest game (no
mention of the Celts in any news outlet I listen to for weeks now) in most
respects (Wyc's Telfair outburst notwithstanding) and if they had ANY
inkling that they could get something GOOD they'd be leaking it to whichever
shill...errrr...scribe they currently have at Healthpoint.
Even I have given up on the fantasy of getting anything other then a draft
pick this off-season.
The entire collective bargaining agreement has created a system about as
flexible as steel rebar enforced concrete. Oden, Durant, Jianlian (please
forgive the misspelling) are 1, 2, and 3 on Danny's board and from there
it's anyone's guess. Danny's not the brightest bulb on the planet, but he's
not outright stupid either. If the Celtics are lucky enough to land either
the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft and he trades it away - he'll be tarred and
feathered by media and fans alike in a din so loud Wyc will HAVE to listen
to it - and Ainge knows it.
