That scenario makes sense if he's considering playing overseas.  But how many NBA teams are under the cap?  And of those teams how many want to add a 1M gangsta who was third string in Portland and picking splinters out of his butt in Beantown?

Well, if he gets anything even close to the full value as a buy-out, and
can sign for anything greater than the difference, he wins. To come out
ahead, he doesn't need to find a team to pay him big-time money. If I'm
due $3 million, and get bought out for $2 million, I only need to sign
with another team for $1,000,001 for it to be worth it, and to another
team, a guy with the raw talent, for the much smaller amount of money,
might well make sense.
