There are too many posters comparing Oden to Russell
and its a little late in game for that with the play in
the NBA right now. When Russell was blocking shots
and leading to those breaks, it was just man to man
defense. There was some switching but mostly you
had to guard your man.
When the league instituted/allowed the zone it
completely changed the game. If anyone watches
a game where a team goes into a zone today its
lights out with the shooters now in the league.
Phoenix doesn't care who is guarding the paint. All
the shots they would put up are coming down by
the time they are ten feet from the hoop. If Oden is
the defensive stopper a lot of posters think he is, I
suggest he isn't going to have the impact nowadays
as he would looking back when the game was played
differently.
I haven't seen much of either playing this season,
however right now if I had my choice it would be
Durant. The C's have scorers but they only have one
shooter and that's Green, and he still has a way to go.
When the C,s come up against a zone its lights out.
It has happened too many times this year, and it
amounts to quarters of 15 and 17 points. That ain't
going to do it when playing either an uptempo or a
slowdown game.
Any disbelievers?
