And none of them came with the defensive impact Oden brings.

You are using the benefit of 20-20 hindsight to define franchise
centers.  

There have been plenty of centers taken #1 who neither won championships
nor developed into franchise players.  For example: Joe Barry Carroll,
Ralph Sampson, Brad Daugherty and Micheal Olowokandi.  Yao Ming's teams
haven't won much yet and even David Robinson's teams didn't won any
championships before Tim Duncan joined the team....
