I think I'm coming down on the side of Durant right now (prepared for 
Mark to call me crazy). He's a 6-10 guy who can play inside or outside 
and handle the ball, but he's no sissy small forward in a power 
forward's body -- he's in the top five in the country in rebounding as 
well as scoring. He's better than Carmelo when he led Syracuse to the 
title. He's dominating one of the major conferences in college 
basketball as a freshman -- just as young as Greg Oden. Durant really is 
looking like a young Garnett (absolute WORST case is Rashard Lewis, 
which is damn good). The guy he really conjures up for me is a young 
Danny Manning -- before he blew out his knee, when he was dominating 
college basketball with a brilliant all around game.

Yes, Oden is bigger and stronger and a true center. He's a great shot 
blocker and a good rebounder (although he's not outrebounding Durant). 
Offensively, part of his problem is that his team, unfathomably, doesn't 
seem to look for him. Couldn't believe how many threes the Buckeyes 
chucked up against Wisconsin without even looking for the big man. That 
said, he looks very mechanical and his footwork isn't great. There's no 
guarantee he'll become a Shaq, Duncan, Olajuwon, David Robinson type 
scorer. Honestly, his profile looks a lot like Emeka Okafor (Oden 
doesn't seem as athletic as Dwight Howard), which certainly isn't bad -- 
I'll take 15, 12 and 3 every night. But given the choice of Garnett and 
Okafor, who would you take?
