" just heard part of an interview. I missed the
beginning and the audio cut out in the middle so I
missed some of that too. But it was good. All this is
me paraphrasing Danny:
* He is building the team for the long term. He has no
interest in making deals that are short term oriented
only: such as he will not trade a young guy for a vet
if the young guy will be significantly better in two
years.
* Doc is in agreement with this. Danny said, both he
and Doc have enough money. Neither is thinking first
about extending their own contracts. They're looking
to do what is best for the team (it was put almost in
terms of a legacy).
* However they have been and are trying to get Pierce
veteran help. The right deal just has not come along.
The price has always been too high.
* When asked if he knew who he was picking tonight,
Danny said he has a "1 and 1A."
* When asked about the level of competition in the
Chinese CBA, Danny said "It's better than the ACC."
"The top level of the Chinese league is better than
the NCAA." He said in China there are lots of very
tall talented players, whereas in college many teams
can succeed being much smaller.
* When asked, he answered transition (from China)
questions basically by saying it's no bigger and
probably less than the transition from college, which
Cedric Maxwell agreed.
* He is not drafting to trade. He is drafting to keep
the player
* He will not do any trades now that hurt the team
later
* He talks to Pierce about everything. Pierce and
Danny understand each other's and team's situation.
They will continue to try to get vet help. Right now
they are not exploring the alternative path of moving
Paul as their primary plan is still to build with him.
* All the young guys continue to grow as players and
their value is increasing as trading chips. It will
continue to increase.
* There is not one player the team has traded away
that management wishes they had back. "
