A few thoughts on a rainy Monday morning

I agree with this assessment. I don't hate Peter May, I just think he's a lousy journalist. When was the last time he actually broke a story or provided some unknown insight into a facet of the team or the NBA? He's a johnny-come-lately who just sort of "piles on" to an existing problem without any sort of decent analysis. I find that a lot of posters on this board display far more cogent analysis of the problems facing the team, whether or not I agree with their point of view.

I grew up reading Ray Fitzgerald, Leigh Montvile , Bob Ryan, Francis Rosa, John Powers, and later Dan Shaughnessey at the Globe. Peter May couldn't be those guy's paperboy, let alone a fellow scribe. And let's not even start on Shira.

My dislike for Peter May has nothing to do with his negativity. It has
to do with his lack of interest in the subjects he writes about, his
lack of knowledge of those subjects, his consistently shallow, lazy
approach to covering the Celtics and the NBA, and his general overall
ineptitude compared to similar writers around the country. The coverage
of the Celtics in the Boston Globe, one of this country's great
newspapers, is an embarrassment -- or at least it should be for anyone
paying attention in the Globe offices. Peter May is the worst, but Shira
Springer isn't far behind.

Because his brand of basketball, while effective, is horrible to watch.
He's also dour, humorless, and stubborn as a mule. I asked this list a
while ago whether, given the choice of Doc as our coach, or getting Obie

back, they'd prefer Obie. I do not recall many (any?) takers.

As for Peter May, I think he's disliked because he kills one's inner
Keltic child with his caustic observations. Many fans would rather not
be told the unpleasant reality that exists outside their Green Zone.

Winning is not everything, and certainly not the only thing. A sense of
humor, a friendly face, and the ability to get along with the characters

populating the NBA these days count for something. Integrity and
winning ability, not as much.
