The key question is "Will KG be more like"

[a] Karl Malone and Robert Parrish (playing 30+ mpg into his late 30s)
[b] Kevin McHale, Moses Malone, Jack Sikma, George Gervin (start breaking
down around 34, then play a couple more seasons as an effective but less
dominant player)
[c] Larry Nance, Chris Webber (have a dramatic fall-off at 32).

I think Garnett has a chance to be more like Malone/Parrish than
McHale/Gervin. He just strikes me as more like the freak of nature that
Malone/Parrish were.

I'm just as nervous about Doc coaching this team. Larry Brown and Rick
Carlise are out there....

I'm not sure I agree with this entirely. Bird started breaking down
early, but McHale was still dominant into the 90s and would have gone
evenlonger if they hadn't shot up his foot. All three were big men in
what amounts to the middle ages for sports medicine. And none were thekind
of athletes these guys are. As for that team's bench, if we hadhad
Gomes, Rondo, etc. etc. we would have beaten the lakers every year. Reggie
was good but the rest of the team was populated with thelike of Mark
Acres, Fred Roberts, Brad Lohaus, and other guys that didn't belong in the
league. The biggest problem as I see it is coaching;I wish we had Jimmy
Rodgers now.As for the 1990 Celtics, this team is both better and worse:
there is more talent (overall) and athelicism, but obviously nothing like
the teamspirit and championship experience. But then we don't have to beat
Magic's lakers, or even Isiah's pistons, either. After the spurs,
there'sno team out there even as good as Doc's old Hawks team.
