1. deal not done? --- from Celticsblog board:
-----
Jackie MacMullen on ESPN's 1st take:
1. Rondo - McHale wants him, DA says no. so far DA winning that.
2. Taylor - might say No to trading KG.
3. Money - will we risk doing the deal without extension? will Wyc et al
pay KGs asking price of 5 years/125 million?
-----
I hope that one of these botch the deal -- but does Al then take it as
"they didn't want me" or "well i was almost traded for a top-10 guy"?
2. I agree with Mark B -- a huge problem with this deal is that it's left
the cupboard pretty bare. I don't mind taking a risk but we're really thin
without a lot of promising youth to take over for pierce/allen/kg in 2-3
years.
I have a feeling that part of KG's not wanting to come here originally was
b/c of Wally (they really did not get along in MIN). But if we were gonna
move Jefferson for KG i wish we could have added a young big in this
draft.
2a. If KG deal goes through --- we've got to fill this roster out (PG,
size), which means going further into Lux Tax land --- but heck if we've
done this deal we're gonna be there anyways so why not go all out? Here
are a few quick thoughts:
PF/C types --- I imagine the theory has to be that with Pierce/Allen/KG
we'd be a place where folks would sign looking for a title. So would 2 of
PJ Brown, Brian Skinner or Melvin Ely sign for $2.5M each for 1 year? Then
add Jake Tsakalidis for $1M exception.
Anthony Carter -- he could be had for the trade exception that we got for
Delonte West. DEN would back off the luxury tax threshold and he's a
veteran PG who's played with KG for a few years back in MIN.
Anthony Johnson -- by my calculations we'd get a $2.8M trade exception if
the KG deal goes down as rumored. We could trade that to ATL for Anthony
Johnson to play the vet backup PG for Rondo.
I'd be a lot more comfortable with a lineup of:
Rondo / A. Johnson
R. Allen / T. Allen
Pierce / Gomes / Scalabrine
KG / Skinner / Powe / Davis
Perkins / PJ Brown / Tsakalidis
