Though a small % of the total work force, unions have a disproportionate (and often pernicious) influence for 2 reasons:

  1.. They're concentrated in government jobs (including public schools), where they preponderate.
  2.. They're a major source of funding for politicians, whom they lobby for policies that hurt not only our economy but often the very workers they seek to help.
