Oh yes, some truths do hurt

I don't think we'll do anything until the Garnett Saga ends. I think
we're still in the mix with an offer built around Jefferson and Ratliff
(and more, obviously). I hope it doesn't happen, but I really do believe
we're putting a lot of things on hold until that is settled.
Assuming Garnett goes elsewhere, I'm not especially optimistic about
other acquisitions. I think we'll bring in a veteran point guard
somehow, but I think we'll start hearing about how healthy Theo is and
how motivated he is in a contract year, blah, blah, blah ... Then when
he goes down two weeks into the season, we'll spend the rest of the year
talking about our bad luck with injuries and with hints about using
Theo's deal at the deadline for a non-contender looking to dump a
salary. And maybe they'll pull that off. Who knows?

Subject: Oh yes, some truths do hurt
with all due respect --- I really can't believe this is it.
A couple of vets -- 1 each of (big men) Skinner, Ely, Tsakalidis, or
Marc
Jackson and (PGs) Pargo, McLeod, orcould be signed for $4M or so
combined,
or less "new money spent" if we traded for Ollie, Dooling or Lue.
The owners can't not understand that (a) adding a 2 vets at PG and PF/C
will virtually assure (bar unexpected injury) a playoff birth and (b)
that
the (at minimum) 2 playoff home games will just about pay for those $4-5
Mil in added salaries.
I don't doubt the owners are concerned about the bottom line -- but
we're
not talking about paying the luxury tax...this is money invested to make
more money....they have to know this.
(the other) mark

Because that would cut into our owners' bottom line. Why sign actual
proven NBA players when you can sign undrafted free agents like Brandon
Wallace for the league minimum and save some cash?
As much as I've been hammering Ainge lately, it's not his fault we have
yet another in a set of despicable owners who force decisions not based
on any facet of basketball. I'm not saying they have to "take a loss";
if they studied decisions based on one simple fact: creating a winner -
the cash will follow, but instead decisions are made to save cash and
the losses follow.
As Mr Belanger said - you can keep hoping, but I really think the team
we have right now is the team we're going to see on the floor come
training camp and beyond.
-------------------------
And while we're talking about backups... why don't we sign Melvin Ely or
Brian Skinner to a 2-3 year $7M contract!? Do it Danny... before another
team nabs the guys we need!
