Can't spell compromise without a promise

I think if Stern presented it as a way to collectively earn back
trust--and there's no doubt Stern and the top brass would have to
submit to similar scrutiny--and as long as it was made clear it was a
voluntary effort made by the officials themselves in conjunction with
the NBA, it might work. The NBA refs have had their collective back
protected by Stern for years. It's time to return the favor by
standing up and inviting scrutiny.

And, God forbid, there's a Donaghy-type reason they CAN'T, then they
owe Stern a heads-up now.

You'd possibly say it couldn't happen, but then I never expected a
public statement supporting the officials to come from Mark Cuban,
either--yet there it is.

As to Stern's appearance, he looked haunted, his hands wandering
over the podium, his voice unsteady. I really hope it's just a
reaction to what WE know, and not a hint of what HE
knows. Otherwise, God help the NBA and it's fans.
