I've always thought the predictions list was as much about what 
people EXPECTED the Celtics to do as much as it was about what they 
were LIKELY to do.  Some who predict a high number emphasize the 
positive prospects, while some others fear the worst.   It's not a 
matter of incautiousness as it is a positive outlook in 
general.  Some people are determined to hope for the best, no matter 
what.  The Charlie Browns of the world, as it were.

This is not to say that people who predict low numbers are somehow 
less of a fan than others, they're just a lot more pessimistic.  And 
the ones who go straight down the middle?

Well, they're making side bets.  :)
