Big Baby refused to be measured at the Orlando combine, so it could not
come from there. If I'm wrong, please point us to a site with official
NBA measurements. As far as I've been able to find, there have been no
official measurements of Davis, only (literally) incredible statements
about his height, wingspan, and bodyfat % from his agent.

Where else but on this list a reference to a player's more-or-less true
height (in basketball shoes) would be deemed a cheap shot? What's next,
a reference to the Celtics' 24-win season perceived as slander? There's
no way Big Baby is 6-9, unless he's playing in high heels or in outer
space (which adds about 3 inches to one's height due to lack of
gravity). For reference, he was matched up against Mensah-Bosu
yesterday, who is listed at 6-9, was officially measured at 6'7.5", and
looks quite a bit taller than Big Baby.

However, his lack of "length" aside, Big Baby just plain knows how to
play. He was dominant in yesterday's game, and showed fantastic timing
on his blocks (it certainly wasn't due to the length of his arms). I was
wrong - he's not a homeless man's Toine. He's a working-class Toine, a
kid who didn't grow to PF height and had to really learn how to play to
be effective. Most important, unlike Toine, he seems to understand his
limitations. The $600K question is how much of this ability will
translate against real NBA big men.

If the Celtics played in a 6'7"-and-under league, they would once again
become a championship dynasty with Gomes, Powe, and Big Baby dominating
the inside, and Pierce and Allen the perimeter. Unfortunately, Ainge
seems unaware that the NBA has no height limit.

Give us a relatively healthy squad this year, and with the addition of Allen & Davis, a decent vet at pg, and we'll be back on track--say, 46 or so wins minimum. We're also the conservatives, in that we hesitate to swap a developing star (Al) for a older, proven star (Garnett). Short term fixes bother us conservatives. We are more content with evolution than revolution. Now, where's my McCain button? Gene
