Not sure how well this going to go over with Pierce, I think he was
really looking forward to hanging this shingle on his locker. Guess
we'll just have to wait for the fall out. :-)

I guess the reality is that this is another "addition by subtraction".
So overall it's a positive step.

Ainge adds GM to his nameplate

LAS VEGAS - The Celtics [team stats] decided not to replace general
manager Chris Wallace, instead altering the roles of those already on
the staff.

In the process, Danny Ainge will add GM to his title of executive
director of basketball operations.

"We're kind of redistributing assignments within the organization,"
Ainge said. "For example, Dave Wohl has been an NBA general manager, an
NBA coach, an NBA player and an NBA assistant coach, and we felt we
should be utilizing that experience for more than just what he does on
Doc (Rivers') staff. I've been doing more work with Dave, and he's been
great."

Assistant director of basketball operations Leo Papile appears to be
remaining with the club after talk he could join Wallace in Memphis.

The biggest move is being made by Ryan McDonough, who has impressed
the organization in his role as director of amateur scouting.

"Ryan has progressively taken on more and more of a role in the last
few years," said Ainge. "He'll take on a lot of the European
responsibilities Chris had. He won't have all the responsibility Chris
had for Europe, but he'll have a big portion. This is something we've
kind of been grooming him for these last couple of years."

Word from within the club is that McDonough developed a strong
record at projecting where players will fit in the league because of his
willingness to pore over countless hours of video.
