< The guy {Battie} left his bleading-to-death "friend" and teammate in
the driveway of a hospital and drove away. > - Jim Hill

That's a bit unfair, Jim. Battie didn't just abandon Pierce in the garage
hoping that someone would discover his body there at a later time.

After Pierce was stabbed, Battie and his brother did the right thing.
They immediately drove Paul to the nearest hospital, walked him
to the door, alerted the hospital of the fact that he had just been
stabbed, and then took off.

My feeling is that Battie (who remains one of Pierce's best friends)
was smart enough to escape being involved in a sticky situation at
that time. There has always been more to that stabbing than what
was made public. In the end, it was the simplest solution for Pierce's
future safety, the Celts' legal/PR interest, and the perps to have
Pierce eventually testify that he could not identify who had stabbed
him. There were no convictions. Sounds a bit like Telfair not being
able to identify the Fabolous entourage as those who had stolen
his necklace.
