i was gonna write that i was shocked at the number of folks thinking
Pierce for Gasol is an improvemet (rather than lateral move). And i
like Gasol, but i disagree that he's BETTER than Pierce. At best his
equal and i think a small notch below.
But i'll entertain that it could be a Stackhouse-Hamilton type deal.
However --- how woudl Gasol and Jefferson fit? Seems to me they're
both low post guys. Would Gasol stand in the way of Big Al's
development (i think Jefferson will be better than Gasol eventually)
and would Pierce therefore be the better fit with our franchise
cornerstone?
Wonder what y'all think....

Memphis was 49-33 with a healthy gasol last year in a tough western
division. A 26 year old 7-footer just getting into his prime, who was
also the mvp of the world tournament, is much more valuable than a 29
year old 2 guard/small forward who has hit his ceiling.
Pierce + something other than our #1 for gasol (not sure if the $s work)
would then give us maybe oden/Durant + gasol and al j if we don't have
to include him in the deal. I would take that front court any day.

QUESTION: Have any of you who are so willing to trade Pierce
for Gasol considered just how pitifully our 1 to 4 yr. players
have performed overall WITHOUT Pierce, and just how pitifully
Memphis has performed WITH Gasol. I see desperation among
our listees... as in any trade including Pierce will be good
for us.
Eggcentric, the voice of reason? Who would have ever thunk?
Truth is the Grizzlies have almost the same record with Gasol (6-16) as
they
have without (5-18).
And one of those losses with Gasol was to the Pierceless Celtics, one
of the
only two wins this group has without Pierce. Just how that would lead
anyone to the conclusion that this group of Celtics would be better
with Gasol
instead of Pierce I have no idea.
Yes, there is the legitimate argument that an all-star big is more
valuable
than an all-star swingman, but Gasol doesn't play like your standard
big. He
plays much smaller than your textbook 7 footer.
If we can get Gasol without giving up Pierce, that's fine. I don't see
the
addition of Gasol at the expense of Pierce as an upgrade at all.
